Although a made man for Peak now, Jason Kidd can’t seem to escape his history with Nike. We can’t say for sure that’s Nike’s salty over the fact Kidd left them for Peak but with the way they continue to releases his old signature sneaker in Peak’s most profitable region’s, one may suspect otherwise. When players jump ship they, thankfully, take their name with them; however, that does not keep Nike from releasing their signature models…without their signatures.
The classic Jason Kidd Nike Zoom Flight V has been changed to the Nike Zoom Uptempo V but besides a new alias everything is the same, including the classic colorway. While the US has seen a shortage of the Nike Zoom Uptempo V, a re-branded and sightly modified version of Kidd’s Nike Zoom Flight V, shops in Japan and China have continuously been provided with new colorways over the seasons, giving Peak some shift competition when it comes to marketing their products with Kidd. Could Nike be firing shots at Peak and Kidd, making it clear they can move his old signature sneakers just like they did when he was still one of their yes-men, or is it just an homage to their history together? We’ll never know, but what we do know is that this coming this October select retailers overseas will receive two more colorways of the Nike Uptempo V.
The first of the two features a White leather base with Varsity Maize on the mid-sole, along the ankle and on the top portion of the tongue. The second pair comes in with a darker finish for those who find the other pair to be a little to much for them, consisting of Black throughout the the base with White on the mid-sole and Black on the outsole. The cool colorway consists of a white upper with navy worked into the upper. The shoes feature a mix of leather and mesh just like the original. Asian countries are the only ones who have access to the shoes for now but an American release is likely, and if that never happens pick them up at kix-files.
